Ep. 4 - David Hedlund, Ph. D. - Esports Discussion
In this episode, George Blitch interviews David P Hedlund, Ph.D., as they take a deep dive in to the world of esports, of which Dr. Hedlund is a certified expert in the field!
As an author, Dr. Hedlund is the lead editor of the first textbook ever published on esports titled Esports Business Management, and he has more than 30 additional journal, book chapter and related types of publications, in addition to approximately 50 research presentations.
David P. Hedlund, Ph.D., joined the Division of Sport Management at St. John’s University in New York City in 2012. Dr. Hedlund earned his Ph.D. and a certificate in Measurement and Statistics from Florida State University. He has more than 20 years of domestic and international experience in sport, esports, coaching, business, education and analytics. His areas of sport expertise and research include management, marketing, consumer behavior, coaching, esports and analytics. Dr. Hedlund is also the Co-Director of the St. John’s University Sports Analytics (SJUSA) seminar, and he also helps to lead St. John's University Esports. In September of 2018, Dr. Hedlund was promoted to Associate Professor and granted tenure. In July of 2020, Dr. Hedlund was promoted to the role of Chairperson of the Division of Sport Management, and in September of 2020, he also assumed the role of Graduate Program Director for the division.
In addition, Dr. Hedlund has worked with collegiate and professional sport organizations on a variety of analytics projects, while also educating students about current issues and opportunities in sports analytics. Dr. Hedlund is also an Advisory Board member for Soccermetrics Research, LLC. More recently, Dr. Hedlund has also become an advocate, researcher and speaker about the business of esports.
